Toners & Ink Cartridges – What is the difference?

We can recycle both Ink Cartridges and Toners, but what is the difference?

The physical characteristics of ink and toner cartridges differ considerably, both in terms of design format and contents. For one thing, toner is a powder, while ink is a liquid. Toner and ink cartridges are both used to print documents and photos, but the methods by which inkjet and laser printers accomplish this are fundamentally different.

Laser Printers Use Toner Cartridges.

Do you print a lot at work or school, you probably use Toners.

Toners, are larger cartridges which are full of powder, and usually used in a highly used printer (due to running costs) in workplaces and school.

We can accept MOST  branded original Toners from manufacturers such as:

> Brother
> Canon
> Dell
> Epson
> HP
> Kyocera
> Lexmark
> OKI
> Samsung
> Xerox

We can accept SOME Toners from the below manufacturer:
> Konica Minolta
> Ricoh
> Sharp

If you are business, school or charity and have a Laser printer which uses Toners, get in touch today! Email us the make / model number of your printer or toner cartridge, and we will be able to advise you if we can take them, recycle them and pay for them. We pay 50p for every toner we accept received in recycling bins from our customers.

Unfortunately, we are unable to recycle any compatible or remanufactured toners. Original branded toners usually have the manufacturers logo embossed onto the main toner itself, and compatible / remanufacturerd would have a little sticker on it saying … ‘Made for….’ or ‘Compatible with….’

Ink Jet Printers Use Ink Cartridges.

Ink Cartridges are normally found in our printers in households.
As with the name, they are filled with ink, as opposed to the toners which is powder.

We can recycle both original and compatible / remanufactured versions of ink cartridges.

However unfortunately we are UNABLE to ‘recycle and pay’ for the following INK cartridges, as they are just empty plastic tanks once used, and can be put in with your normal household recycling…

> All Epson
> All Brother
> All Kodak
> All Canon ‘individual colour’ ink tanks (CLI and PGI codes)
> HP that are labelled – 363, 364, 88, 920, 932, 933, 940, 10, 11, 13 and 14

We currently pay 75p for every branded ink cartridge, and 25p for every compatible/remanufactured ink cartridge we receive back in our recycling bins.
