Innovation in Care – Alder Hey in the Park

As a world leader in healthcare and research, Alder Hey is building something amazing, a brand new Hospital, Alder Hey in the Park, with a design inspired by children. A hospital built entirely in a park is something new in the treatment and care of children. It’s not just a first for the UK, there’s nothing like it anywhere in Europe. It is an ambitious and radical vision to redefine what a hospital is and how it relates and interacts with its patients, visitors and environment.

The new Alder Hey aims to provide an improved clinical service, based on effectiveness and efficiency. The parkland will be used creatively as an integral part of the ‘clinical space’, to deliver rehabilitation services to our patients.

Here is an aerial photo of the ground breaking new hospital before the special grass roofs are added, they are designed to help Alder Hey in the Park blend into its green surroundings.

There is only 300 days to go until the new hospital is complete. Since they started building the new hospital in March last year, their time lapse camera has taken photos every ten minutes – more than 45,000 so far! Watch this clip to see the hospital built in minutes!
